The Sahitya Akademi, national academy of letter, is the apex literary body to promote literature in Indian Languages Apart from the well respected awards , Akdemy is involved in many activities. Academy is the biggest publisher in Asia. It is the largest publisher of books in translation. It organizes Seminars, Symposiums, Workshops, Kabi Samelans, Katha Santhi and many programs through out the year. It’s annual Festival of Letters is one of the big celebration for Indian Writing.
The supreme authority of the Akademi vests in the General Council of the academy. The general policy of the Sahitya Akademi and basic principles of programmes are laid down by the General Council and implemented under the direct supervision of an Executive Board.
Every state government nominates a person to the General Council of the Academy. I am nominated to the General Council by the Government of Tamilnadu in 2018. I will be holding office till 2022
