Government of Tamilnadu in the year 1997 constituted a Advisory Committee to revamp the public libraries in Tamilnadu. The mandate for the committee was to give recommendations to the government to improve the functioning of public libraries and to promote and nurture reading habits with common public, particularly among youth.
I was nominated to the committee. I made various suggestions like forming readers ‘circle in every branch of library, providing an employment guidance corner. encouraging private contributions towards infrastructure and soliciting recommendations from readers in buying books.
